With one port, the Air allows a whole new world of high-speed peripheral devices capable of transferring data almost 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0.
You can also use the Thunderbolt power to connect the new Apple Thunderbolt Display, converting your ultra-portable laptop into a desktop workstation. Power another high resolution display while gaining a host of other features: Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire 800, an extra Thunderbolt port, three USB ports, a FaceTime HD camera, 2.1 stereo sound and built-in microphone. The display also doubles as a charger for your Air, so there is no need for your power adapter; all you need to do is connect to the display via the MagSafe power cord and Thunderbolt connection.

Backlit Keyboard

Considering the form-factor of the MacBook Air, you would think some compromises would need to be made by shrinking the keyboard. Amazingly this is not the case, as both the 11” and 13” MacBook Air feature a full-size keyboard. The backlighting is controlled by a built-in ambient light sensor, adjusting brightness automatically to maximise visibility and minimise power loss.
