And the winner is...

For now, I want to talk about the operating system. ClaudioDavid Mulder, andGreg all suggested gOS would be a good option. I tried it out myself, and played with Ubuntu Netbook RemixKDE 4, and a few others as well. At the end of the day,gOS was clearly the best flavour of linux for the Kogan netbook.

We ended up choosing gOS because it's fasteasy to usestable, and has a fantastic, intuitive interface. Here's a screenshot of gOS running a few gadgets:

What do you want to see in the Kogan netbook?

As I told APC Magazine, the Kogan team plans to be selling a netbook in the very near future.

We're in the process of developing the Kogan Netbook right now, and it seems that the 10.1" screen size is the sweet spot between screen real estate and portability. Furthermore, an Atom processor looks to be the best balance of computing power and energy consumption.

There are however many other things that make up a netbook, and we're very keen to hear your thoughts on some of these, such as:

Kogan Agora to be delayed

I'm disappointed to have to tell you that the Kogan Agora has to be delayed indefinitely.

This delay comes due to potential future interoperability issues.

The Agora did reach a very late stage of development. Manufacturing had commenced and it was a matter of days from being shipped to you. However, it now seems certain the Agora in it's current form will limit its compatibility and interoperability in the near future.

Kogan Blu-ray player reviewed

One of the most common requests I see on the forums is for third party evaluation of my products. I posted the Full HD Video Camera review the other day, now a review of the Kogan Blu-ray player has been posted over at GoodGearGuide.

They award the device a score of 4.5/5, and had the following to say:

What's Hot

  • Clean interface

Kogan Technologies going paperless

The issue of receiving a physical warranty card with your products came up last week on the blog. Rob pointed it out first on the blog, and then on his own site. It really got me thinking about the paperless office.

The Kogan Technologies team have always tried to minimise the paper we use. First of all, we've found running a paperless office has reduced our operational costs, meaning we can sell LCD TVs, GPS units, and digital photo frames for even cheaper.

Secondly, it's a great way to help the environment. We're all wired to our computers pretty much all day, so why print things unnecessarily?

New 1080P LCD in 32", 42" and 47" sizes

Thank you for all the honest and helpful feedback so far. Recently Chris G, Chumby, Bill, and Graeme have asked for more sizes, and in particular 100Hz panels.

I'm extremely pleased to be able to announce our brand new range of 1080P LCD TVs. They come in 32", 42" and 47" sizes and the first delivery will ship on August 4th, in time for the Beijing opening ceremony.

I'll cut to the chase, because I have always thought price was the most important thing. The 1080p-32 is $999, 1080p-42 is $1449, and 1080p-47 is $1799. At this price and quality, they really blow everything else out there out of the water.

They all come with:

  • Full HD 1080p LCD Panel 1920 x 1080 (16:9)
  • Kogan MotionMax Technology - enhance fast moving images
  • Integrated HD Digital Tuner
  • 100Hz Image Processing Engine
  • Dual HDMI inputs
  • Five High Definition inputs including HDMI/DVI

"Massive" TV price war

Sony is allegedly about to start a “massive” TV price war:

They say that the price of a Sony 40" FHD model could fall to below $1,100 in the US and a 46" model to less than $1,499. In Australia this could translate to $1,800 and below $2,500.
