Why I applied for a job at Maccers

Posted on .

You may have seen the story on news.com.au or Today Tonight about me applying for a job at McDonald's here in Melbourne, and being unsuccessful in my application.

I wanted to tell you in a little more detail why I applied for the job.

I'm not doing this for the money. I know there are people who need jobs like this, and I'm not trying to limit their opportunities. I'm just extremely passionate about the McDonald's business model and want to immerse myself in it.

I obviously have a business to run -- I'm dedicated to selling the best value TVs in Australia, but I want to spend some time in the store. I don't want to work full time and take away hours from the hard working staff there, but I genuinely want to be involved in the Maccers culture and processes. Hopefully I can learn something from them, and also contribute to how they run their business.

If you take a look at why Maccers is successful, it's because of their processes and value for money. These are the exact same things that help Kogan sell the cheapest TVs in Australia. We'e established an extremely efficient business model that allows us to sell high demand consumer electronics, direct to customers online at the best possible prices.

McDonald's sell the best value meals in Australia. They're basically the Kogan of fast food!

If I can learn anything at all from the Maccers processes that helps me sell TVs for even cheaper, then that'd be great! I also have a few ideas for the managers of McDonald's Elsternwick if they'll hear me out :-).

I've been in Shanghai, New York and Melbourne and been able to order the exact same meal at any hour of the night, and it'll come out on a tray identically in each city. I think it's phenomenal that wherever you are in the world you can order a McDonald's meal and it'll come out exactly as you expect it.

Love or hate Maccers, I'd love to hear what you think about it?

Cheers,

Ruslan Kogan
