The NRMA recently released a report about the use of GPS navigation devices in Australia.
The NRMA found that looking at the GPS too often while you're driving is a serious safety issue, and that you should listen to voice commands rather than look at the screen where possible.
The recently launched Kogan G4 GPS and Kogan G6 GPS both have spoken street names in addition to the usual voice navigation. Combined with having the latest Australian and New Zealand Sensis maps, it means you rarely have to take your eyes off the road. For example, where other GPS units will say 'turn right in 100m', the Kogan will also tell you the name of the street you have to turn into, so you can keep your eyes on the road more.
The report also found that the bottom right of the windscreen is actually the safest place to put a GPS unit. Most of the Kogan team who use a GPS place it in the middle bottom of the windscreen. How about you?
