Today we're launching the Kogan Technologies KEVIN37 HD LCD TV, our first 37" LCD TV. Coinciding with the government handout, it's going to be shipped to customers in April and costs only $900.
![]()
This makes it one of the best value 37" LCD TVs on the market, yet another example of us making technology more affordable. There are still many Australians who want to move into the digital age, and this is a great time to do it.
While other manufacturers are raising their prices, apparently due to the price of components, we're releasing new products that undercut everyone else!
We're also going to send out a free promotional t-shirt with each order, it'll look like this:

Kogan Technologies is 100% Australian owned and operated, so any profits are reinvested into the Australian economy.
You can get more information about the tax bonus at the ATO website.
Kogan Technologies is not affiliated with, nor endorsed by, the Government of Australia, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, or the Australian Labor Party.

Presumably these televisions are made in China/Asia, so the bulk of the money is going elsewhere. This will actually hurt the $AUD and the import/export balance. The company may be owned here, but unfortunately buying this TV is likely to do more to harm the economy than hurt it.

@coco: sending money overseas allows the overseas people to buy our goods - e.g. metals, beef etc. Pretty soon (20-50 yrs) their standard of living will be the same as or higher than ours, and our only competitive disadvantages for value-adding work like manufacturing will be our remoteness from everything and very small population.

Well done for removing my post. Obviously a company like Kogan can't deal with the harsh realities of what they do. Trying to cash in on the package by saying it is good for the Aussie economy is pathetic. It may fool your average ACA viewer but it won't fool me. By spending your stimulus package on this junk, you are supporting nobody except Kogan himself and Chinese sweat shop labour. You would be better off buying a TV from Harvey Norman which at least has Aussie staff, even if the electronic goods aren't Aussie. There is no such thing as an Aussie built TV.

The whole "buy Australian/American/whatever and help keep jobs here" line is not very good economics anyway. I mean if the logic holds, why stop there? What about I don't buy anything except produce only made in Sydney, to keep jobs here in Sydney? Or Bexley North? Or within my family and friend's circle? Why? Because we would likely all starve, or at least have to live at a very low standard of living, that's why.
Economics is about the benefits of trade, and competition is about the benefits of productivity. If you want to go to Harvey Norman, spend more because their business model is more wasteful ("Aussie jobs" or no), and you think you are doing anyone a favour, then why not just pay extra on everything you buy and support even more wasteful businesses and unsustainable jobs?

1. Just because a product is made in China doesn't mean it's not good for the economy. The economy is a global animal.
Yes it is. But the economy you WANT to support is Australia's, and if you buy Kogan, the only Australian person you are supporting is Mr Kogan himself. I'm sure the 50 cents profit that goes to China makes no difference in the scheme of things. If you bought a Chinese product at Harvey Norman or Dick Smiths for example, at least the money is going back to their thousands of Aussie staff.
2. Australia would be nothing without China. Where do you think China buys its resources from??
This question makes no sense when we are talking about the stimulus package and trying to inject money into commercial sales. The idea is to spend the money in Australia, not give it to the Chinese so they can buy more steel or coal from us. You think the measly money from Kogan is going to help China buy more Australian products anyway? I highly doubt it.
3. Kevin Rudd is not smart enough, or powerful enough to destroy the global economy. Nor would he want to.
I agree he is not smart enough for anything. Unfortunately you don't need to be smart to destroy the economy. You sound like you are too young to remember the last Labor government and what mess they got us into. You think Keating was smart?

I'm looking at buying an LCD TV and not really interested in the KEVIN37 (too big for my lounge room). I am looking at the KOGAN 1080P-32 - FULL HD LCD TV WITH HD TUNER AND 1080P PANEL.
Just wondering (if anyone has one of them) what it's like performance-wise? Is the image quality good? I find with a lot of LCD TVs that the image can be somewhat grainy/pixelated and that the image can "stutter" and become jerky when the camera pans. Anyone have any advice on this model?

Assuming it is a good idea to listen to people that have actually seen the picture for themselves, rather than people willing to spend their time on making broad uniformed statements like "you are not a good brand and the image will look crap", you can take my word that it is very good. You won't regret it. My olds have a name brand lcd screen and my one smashes their's out of the park. Watching sports, where the camera pans all the time, is no problem at all. It is good...

To everyone saying that this will push us further into debt, the government through numerous taxes and other schemes will end up making around 30-50% of this back, whilst attempting to keep employment at it's current levels and hopefully but unlikely boost the level of employment.
Heard of the multiplier effect anyone?
Basically, one person goes out and spends money on a consumer item, which pays for the wages of the employee, which goes out and spends his/her money from wages on consumer products, until the cash amount is so little it's basically 1cent. say you were to spend $900 on a tv -importers keep their jobs (unless australian owned) for importing the goods to be trucked away by...
truckers keep their job for transporting the goods which are transported to...
companies then pay for the products to be sold in their stores by their...
employees, who gets paid a wage who then uses their wages to repeat the cycle again until the amount is so small it has little to no effect on the economy.
Furthermore, Howard successfully saved up a Budget Surplus, but that doesn't mean the government is in debt, or Australia as a whole is in debt. 90-99% of the debt we still have is Private Sector debt (companies, households debt etc) while government debt is close to non-existent.

if people take the economic stimulus idea at all seriously, they should spend their money consciously, on australian made products or services.
spending $900 on a wide-screen propaganda machine that was most likely built overseas is ridiculous. it has much less positive impact than spending the money on australian made products, or 100% australian service industries.
the government is doing this initiative out of borrowed money, which of course the IMF endorses as a valid response to the global economic crisis, because more debt = more control.
so if the government is going to do this, at least make sure when you spend it you try and keep the funds circulating within australia!!

Hey kogan i see you have one very important feature missing on your TV's and that is support for 14:9 aspect ratio, you only have one zoom aspect ratio of 4:3. Why this is important is that when watching movies rented or bought they usually display it in 16:9 ratio therefore if you have 14:9 zoom function like i do on my current LG tv, you are then able to display the full picture across the entire area of the TV with no black cut-outs on the top and bottom, i was looking really forward to purchasing a 37" full HD TV from you but unfortunetly after checking out the specs the TV doe not support zoom 14:9 aspect ratio therefore i might just wait untill such a feature becomes available (i'm wondering if you can remove the 4:3 zoom function and replace it with a 14:9 zoom function if you don't wanna add this feature in addition to the 4:3 zoom)
P.S. also on my current LG TV it has a light sensor on the front of the display whereby the brightness is automatically adjusted according to the changing day and night external light influence, just wondering if you are able to add this feature to your TV's as well, then it will truly become the best value LCD TV's in australia

$900 for a brand new 37" full HD (Resolution: 1920 x 1080) tv sounds good to me. TEAK (crap brand) are almost twice as dear for a similar item, I'd love a SONY (brand loyalty) but can't justify several K$ for a idiot box... Is the tuner also "full HD" or a lower reolution?
Nice to see a couple of posts relevant to the TV in here, shame about all the uneducated, politicoracist crap I had to read through to find them. "Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one" - doesn't mean we should all air them in public.
ps, thanks for the early tax return Mr Rudd. ;p

Crikey! are Kogan's any good or not. Dont NEC and Panasonic all come from China. Just because they have been around longer and spent millions on advertising does not make them better - does it people ? Tell me.
I am about to spend $$$ on a new one cause my 3 year old TV just crapped itself.
So who makes the best TV for the lowest price ?

Bought a Kevin 37, delivered yesterday. The TV itself is awesome. The dimensions however as advertised on this site are wrong, the TV in reality is larger. So TV will not fit into the entertainment unit. I've asked support for any advice, a 25-30mm shorter stand would help, Support it seems are a little busy....

I guess the specs have completely changed. I know they're now delivering late July, so I assume no-one's actually seen this TV performing yet. With the current specs, it looks good/great, and for a good price. I've bought from Kogan before and their after-sales support was brilliant, so I dunno what everyone's on about with their whining. I think a lot of the complaining is from people who haven't bought from Kogan before?
Thinking of buying this for my workplace.. hoping the HD Tuner is good quality, but then again I'm not looking for perfection, I'm looking for necessary features, good performance and great value. An artifact here or there is not such a big deal, and $900 is obviously a decent price. This seems to fit the bill.
Anyway, I like the idea of a light sensor in future versions.
