It’s been a massive week for the team here at Kogan. We kicked it off with a media event on Tuesday to launch seven new products and have seen dozens of media articles come through with views and opinions on all of them. On Wednesday morning, Ruslan also flew to the United States to secure a warehousing deal that will assist with plans to launch Kogan in the North American market by the end of 2009.
We’re also planning to enter the European market by opening operations in the United Kingdom.
Perhaps the most exciting product launch this week was the announcement of a Wi-Fi capable digital photo frame that has attracted interest from as far away as the UK with a story in The Mirror. The Wi-Fi photo frame is a great tool to share photos with people from anywhere in the world – it can link to Flickr, Facebook photos and other social networking sites like Twitter and display these on the frame. This product is on pre-sale now for a mid-July dispatch.
Other products launched this week include:
- Kogan Wi-Fi Digital Radio
- Kogan Blu-ray player 2.0
- Kogan 1080p-22 –22” Full HD LCD TV
- Kogan Full HD 1080p Camcorder with HDMI-out
- Kogan EVINAVG3 GPS
- Kogan Multi-function Digital Photo Frames
Before week’s end, Ruslan also landed a spot in the Business Review Weekly (BRW) Fast Starters for 2009 – at number 37 out of 100. BRW Fast Starters profiles the top 100 fastest growing start-ups in Australia.
There is a lot happening at the moment and we are - as always - interested to hear what you guys think of the new products. We also want to know what you think about Kogan launching in America and the UK?

Kogan's prices in the US without the overseas shipping cost? I can't wait! Oh, and that's quite interesting about the Agora and red tape.

When are you going to get your new BluRay player reviewed by cnet?
I am very interested in what they will say about it since the features list has been significantly improved since version 1.

Soooo.. New sales in to the US........ but when can we expect the Kogan Android mobile (I am not calling it the agora's since they badged the linux netbook with that name).
Or even an update on the release/development. Or failing that a flat out statement that kogan are no longer going to deliver an Adroid phone, so those of us who are hanging out for one, can then look at other vendors instead.

What happened to the Blu-Ray ver 1.1? The one with the cool blue glowy thing at the front. As I have no need for BR2 for live download, I'd be more than happy to puchase it at the "last years model" price. This new one looks, bland, unoriginal and normal. I liked the cool blue glowy thing. Bring back the cool blue glowy thing.

I know its sometimes sensitive, but at least give us a timeframe to expect an update in, please! Keep it up, Kogan, its great stuff !!!

Kogan Agora Netbook? Dime a dozen in China - I will bring all this stuff in and stick Kogan badges on it and eBay it. Can't believe how silly Australians are! Good work on fooling them for millions Ruz.

Of course it is rebadged from China you wally, we know that. I have gone Kogan to get warranty, support in Australia, and if you look at the site you mention, for the one TV I have ordered thru Kogan, I would have to purchase 120 units from China!
It's always cheaper going direct to manufacturer, but support and warranty locally does not make you 'dumb'. I am paying for the security and confidence in a local supplier.

I have to agree with Dave, after all local support and (chaos forbid) warranty return's I would rather deal with a local supplier than go back over sea's to a wholesaler.
However that also brings around t my original complaint, where is there any news (either pro or no) about the kogan android phone.... even if it is from one of those oversea's wholesalers again.

I can see why your business model is attracting so much interest, but I have to say I'm surprised your delivery options are so limited. Don't you understand that people have to go to work, and taking a whole day off in order to sign for a delivery is just not an option? You must be missing out on lots of sales as a result.
I'm very interested in your product, but my interest diminishes greatly if it costs me a day's wage in order to get it!

Ruslan says...
Hi there people,
Thought I might dip in to the discussion
I wanted to start by responding to people who have been touting our products as ‘re-badged’. Long before we attach a Kogan label to a product, we spend time assessing every component of each model - we source these from up to 15 different places for any one product. Once we have the best components at the best price, we choose the best shell, or casing – this is the part where people have been drawing comparisons with other products. While Kogan products may look like others out there, behind the brand and casing is a completely different product. We do exactly what Samsung, LG and Sony do, but undercut them on drastically on price!
In terms of quality, I direct all to our media page where we openly share product reviews with everyone…
Also, Worstnightmare, the new Blu ray player will be region free.

Good to see some one from Kogan is reading these comments, and great that you are responding to them, how about a response about your 'delayed' andriod phone?

Well I stand corrected in referring to it rebadged, even tho I was happy with it that way. Knowing that Kogan does everything that Rusian has stated has me over the moon! Great stuff guys, and a hats off also for having such an open forum for discussion, I can't think of many if any other suppliers that do so, and interact with their customers.
Just got my toll.com.au note waiting on my order :) yay :)

Thanks for that Ruslan - much appreciated as I have a few BD discs that are region A only....
Can't wait till August! Finally with on board decoding! Saves me having to update my excellent Onkyo 7.1 amp that has 7.1 analog inputs but no HDMI inputs. When will you be looking at doing amps? :)
Thanks again for the responce!
I agree with Dave and Randy above - most electronic products now are made in china and to have a local dealer that will support their product is the way to go. I import small display systems for vehicles and it is a pure nightmare having to deal with them, let alone shipping delays, language barriers, etc....

Hi
How are Kogan going to employ for their USA & UK locations. Transfer of personnel from Aus or locally. Or what about considering those with UK/Aus citizenship who'd love to relocate either back to the UK or the USA (with a great forward thinking company)?
mmmmm
Regards
Paul

I know the Agora phone was a bit of a let down, but I suppose you still have the means to manufacture it? Why not look at putting openmoko on it? It's even more open than android and almost as user friendly.
Let not all this R&D go to waste.
