The issue of receiving a physical warranty card with your products came up last week on the blog. Rob pointed it out first on the blog, and then on his own site. It really got me thinking about the paperless office.
The Kogan Technologies team have always tried to minimise the paper we use. First of all, we've found running a paperless office has reduced our operational costs, meaning we can sell LCD TVs, GPS units, and digital photo frames for even cheaper.
Secondly, it's a great way to help the environment. We're all wired to our computers pretty much all day, so why print things unnecessarily?
For those who are wondering about their warranty cards, they are included in the e-mail with the tax invoice.
Our next push towards minimising paper wastage is to stop shipping printed manuals with our product. We will be posting all the manuals to www.kogan.com.au/support/. We've found that all of our products are easy to use, and people rarely look at the manual. For the odd occasions when you need it, it will be available in an easily printed format online. This also allows us to quickly and promptly make any changes to the manuals.
What do you think? I'm really keen to get your opinion on this. Are you happy with electronic manuals going forward?

I like your idea, a paperless office works great.
However I suggest that you offer printed manuals on request to your customers.

the digital age has been here for sometime now, so it makes good business sence to cut production cost as chances in the market place progress.

I love computerised versions of manuals etc because it also simplifies having to read through the whole manual by allowing you to search for something specific. If your manuals had that feature, (or even were digital txt so we could search ourselves)...then it would be a bonus! :)

well done...a positive step...plus there are a few simple things you folks can do at your office/warehouse premises to minimise your impact....BUT.....and I say this not to be critical, just to highlight a point that is often forgotten...the main impact of your business happens upstream in the supply chain. If you want to really make a difference this is where you should be looking.

I like the option of receiving a printed manual. There are still a lot of people out their that rarely use a computer. Remember most people leaving comments here are the regular computer users.
