BLU-RAY PLAYER AVAILABLE FOR PRE-SALE

Just a quick note to let you know that the Kogan Blu-ray player is now available for presale on our online store. Rob has also posted about this on his blog.

The Blu-ray player sells for an industry-smashing price of AU$349.

As with all our products we have a money-back guarantee, so if you're not happy with the product after purchasing it, we do offer peace of mind.

However, I know you're all keen to hear what people think about this product, so over the coming weeks I will be working to have some third-party journalists at various media outlets around Australia review a pre-production model of the Blu-ray player.

Pete says...

Great price! Wonder if it will play Hidef WMV/AVI or MKV's?

Steven says...

Will full technical specifications and an online/pdf user manual be made available for this player?

e..g what are the output, does it have a headphone socket?

Ruslan Kogan says...

Hey Pete and Steven,

PDF user manuals will be online in the near future for all Kogan products including the Blu-ray player.

Technical Specifications are already available online for the Blu-ray player. Please see the 'Specifications' section on: http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/kogan-blu-ray-player-full-hd...>

The Blu-ray player does not have a headphone socket. To connect headphones to the Blu-ray player you can use the RCA output, Coaxial digital audio output or Optical digital audio output. You can also connect an RCA to 3.5mm stereo adapter.

Pete, it won't support those file formats unfortunately.

Cheers, Ruslan

This has BD love for and extra $30, this product is hardly industry smashing... why wouldn't i buy a Sony?

Anthony says...

Is this blu-ray player region free (on the blu-ray side) NOT the DVD playback side? I.E: Can play region A, B and C????

Roger says...

Re KOGAN BLU-RAY PLAYER I asked about region free and received the reply as below

Beau says...

I have to agree with"aj".........

I was at JB hi-fi today, Sony BR player only $380.........By the time I pay for delivery the total for the Kogan unit is $377.79.

Is there any chance of a price decrease????? or should I buy the Sony unit.

Thank you

Steve says...

I agree Beau,

Sony BDPs350 for $380 with BD 2.0 and HDMI 2.0

C'mon Kogan your product is not out yet and is a dinosaur!!!

Andrew says...

The Kogan is the first player that appears to be able to read Mpeg2 and Mpeg4 clips from USB devices. I have a lot of material on a USB hard drive so if this type of USB device is supported, I am quite likely to buy one and try it. Can anyone confirm?

aj says...

That is a good point Andrew, what about BD Live? Can a Kogan BD player stream content from the web? Also I am sure the Sony can play Mpegs and Divx of the USB it states that it can connect to all sorts of content as well as automatically download content from the web and store it on a usb stick if there is one in the player!

Guess I will have to wait till Kogan BD player 2.0.....

Ruslan Kogan says...

Hi everyone,

I posted this in the other thread, but not in this (there are two Blu-ray posts currently running).

There has been a slight change in the product, and it won't be shipping with a USB slot now.

It will still however support the same formats through the optical drive.

Cheers,

Ruslan

Andrew says...

Thanks for clearing that up. Is it Bluray licensing restrictions that stopped the inclusion of the USB playback feature? In which case I will be unlikely to find any player that does it.

Ebay is Kogans market and they sell here often under $300.00 similar features. What to do ?

Toshiba apprently have a player on the way due out prior to Christmas for under $200.00.

aj says...

Andrew.... MAKE IT MORE OBVIOUS THAT YOU ARE ON KOGAN'S PAYROLL...... why don't you?

Andrew says...

I just found that the LG Bluray appears to support playback from USB HDD. It's $499, much more than this machine. So AJ, the Kogan is still value for money PS Ruslan, please send payment to me ASAP:-)

Are you blind Andrew?

Andrew says...

Ruslan

No I am not blind. I can read and remember what was written on your web site before it was CHANGED.

Originally your product was described as playing video files from USB devices. Now you have changed the spec to reading these files from optical media. So I will buy the LG instead.

Having said that, I wish you good luck with your product. I do have a Kogan LCD TV and it is very good indeed. Sorry that your Bluray is not what you first promised,

Suggest that you do it in version 2.

Andrew ur plain stupid

Only a matter of time before BD players are $220 here,,,,,,

gonna have to absorb that Kogan co

Andre says...

I can't quite understand why people are being so childish and slandering Kogan. I have never heard of Kogan before but after many weeks of research.......as I can tell it's the first Blu Ray that is completly Region free, that also has up conversion. Correct me if I am wrong?

Tony says...

Ruslan, just been reading an article on creating high definition DVDs, but to play these requires a Blu-Ray player with AVCHD playback capability. I notice this isn't in your specs. Can you confirm whether the Kogan player can play AVCHD discs or not?

P.S. The Kogan TV we bought a while back is still giving many hours of enjoyment. Just moved house and it looks even better in its new place.

Ja'son Styles says...

I would be interested in knowing if this unit would work on my Sharp HDTV ( NTSC Set ) ?

Would this "Beast" work for me in the USA?

Of the following formats are supported?

BD-Video: pre-recorded Blu-ray disc

BD-Video: REGION A B C

BD-ROM: version 2

BD-RE: version 3 (single layer, dual layer); JPEG

BD-R: version 2 (single layer, dual layer)

DVD-RAM: DVD video recording format, AVCHD format, JPEG

DVD-Video: DVD Region 0 1 2 3 4 5 6, DVD PAL/SECAM DVD NTSC

DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL: DVD Video, AVCHD format

CD-Audio: pre-recorded CD-DA

If this unit is @ BD- Live 1 will it ever support BD- Live 2.0 ? How would updates/firmware be done I don't see any mention of LAN connections?

kerry hewitt says...

After all the blurb etc on this unit being blu ray region free and it will play out of box this is not true - it will play all region dvd as i have just tested - i tried to play the Blu ray of Planet of the Apes but is says this is a A region disc just like all discs say so what doi need to do why advertise as region free when it obviously isnt i feel conned i want my money back
