I came across this article by Adam Turner, an Aussie freelance journalist. Amongst other things, he talks about the importance of selecting the right size TV for your room.
Brenda, Vin, Owen, Oz Man, and others have posted on this blog asking for different sizes. When I was in China last week I arranged to bring more sizes into the Full HD range, including 32" and 47". These will be available for pre-sale soon.
I'm curious as to what you think about the size of HDTVs. Do you just want the biggest possible? Or do you try and choose a size that is appropriate for the area you're putting it in? Is 42" the sweet spot or are you really after the broadest selection?

A wide selection would be good as those of us with larger rooms need larger sizes (46" - 50"+). I've been holding off buying till the larger sizes come in Full HD with digital tuner and all the other goodies. I read the article by Adam Turner about room size and based on his calculations a 42" would be an absolute minimum in our room. I will be looking closely at the 47" HD coming soon, hopefully it will be just what I've been waiting for. Keep up the good work.

The rooms in my house suit 40" - 46" tops. How did you go with HD set top boxes over there, any progress in that field? I could get one if it had a decent size HDD in it, say 1TB. and a USB port to add movies etc from my PC. Also HDMI output a must. Some jokers out there are still trying to sell SD set tops with 250gb HDD for around $500, too much for too little! Regards.

Yea.. I agree... anything too large for a room not only looks out of proportion with everthing else, but is somewhat overwhelming on the eyes...
A 32" Full HD would be fine in the room I am looking at.... and for the purpose also...
Just hoping these will be availble on pre-sale before the end of the month (financial year).... :)
Keep up the good work.

I guess there's always the temptation to just get the biggest so you can brag when you have the guys over...
Realistically, it depends on how far you sit from the TV. If you look at a 60" in a store, the 42" will look tiny... I would suggest diversifying the range a bit. Which you have done. It wouldn't go too far astray to offer a 60" in the not too distant future as although many people are taking up lcd tv's.
The first generation of customers, people who bought them before HD displays were available, will probably start looking at purchasing a second tv since resolutions will probably peak here for a while. I've seen a few 1440p displays appearing, but I don't they'll take on due to the fact that blu-ray won't go higher than 1080. These customers will go for size as they won't want to buy an inferior product.

I am glad to see you have a Full HDTV choice for us in the 32" size. My concern is that you have the shipping date as 4th August and say it is just in time for the Olympics. But the Olympics start on the 4th of August. Does that mean that everyone who orders the new 32" full hdtv will receive it on this day? I doubt it. And if there is a delay of a week or two (as often happens with popular items) then a customer may miss the Olympics altogether on the new telly :/ I suppose I am asking if it is at all possible to get the TV shipping date moved forward a bit to allow a buffer between shipping date and the start of the Olympics (would be nice to see opening ceremony in FHD but that may be pushing it) :)

We will do everything we can to release products as quickly as possible. All of the information I have at the moment suggests that the 4th of August will be the date you receive your product. Having said that, I believe the Olympics opening ceremony is actually 8th of August (08.08.08, how convenient :-) so you should have plenty of time to get it setup.

You are correct. The Olympics do start on the 8th I was told the wrong date and I commented before checking. Well fingers crossed that it is delivered on the day stated (and not delayed).

Hey mate,
I am interested in either the 32 or 42 inch Full HD TVs. However in reading the specs, i couldn't see how many bits the panels were. Are they 8 bit panels?

After browsing through the big box retailers I believe that the perfect size tv for my apartment is 37"
Are there any plans to introduce these to your range?

John Mac -- we are currently looking into bringing set top boxes in to our ranges. We will be launching a HD set top box with HDMI input for under $100 very shortly. We'll also have a range of PVRs so you'll be able to record your favourite TV shows. If you subscribe to the blog, I'll make sure I post about it as soon as we have the product available: http://feeds.feedburner.com/kogan

Hi Bryan, those models display 4.3 billion colours which means they are 32 bit. Hope that helps!

Hey Shane. Our competitive advantage in the market -- and why we are able to get cheap products to everyone -- is that we manufacture in bulk. Unfortunately at the moment 37" just isn't as popular as the others. I will keep an eye on this but at the moment our current sizes are all I can promise.

Hi Rus,
I am trying to work out the right size screen for my lounge room, we sit exactly 4 metres away from where the new tv would be placed on the wall and am thinking of buying your new 47" HD tv but am not sure whether to buy the 40" model as it may be a little too small. I am leaning more to the 47" but just need a little assistance! also in a previous post, is the 47" fairly close to the Sony X series 46" in viewing quality as friends have the sony 40" and it is fantastic! Thank you for your help regards
Dale

In all honesty given the advent of larger and larger screens and the propensity for most people these days to "Go Big". A broad range would be a distinct advantage.

Hope that helps.
