One of the most common requests I see on the forums is for third party evaluation of my products. I posted the Full HD Video Camera review the other day, now a review of the Kogan Blu-ray player has been posted over at GoodGearGuide.
They award the device a score of 4.5/5, and had the following to say:
What's Hot
- Clean interface
- Great picture quality
- Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD support
- Great up-scaling
What's Not
- No Blu-ray profile 2.0 support
Bottom line
- Even though competing players are dropping in price, Kogan’s unit under-cuts them while still offering perfectly acceptable build quality, a clean interface and great image quality.
They finish the review by saying, "Brand loyalty (or snobbery) aside, Kogan’s Blu-ray player punches as hard as almost any other unit on the market. With the addition of such an enticing price-tag, it comes highly recommended."

I've been reading the reviews of Kogan products and I have to admit they sound like they sound like pretty damn good value... I probably wouldn't have considered buying a Blu-ray player until I saw the price/performance ratio of the Kogan player -- of course, maybe I should splurge on one of your HD TVs first... but then again the Agora looks very tempting.

Hey Kogan Folks!
I'm curious about the player and have been waiting for some reviews to hit. The one thing I need, for which I currently use a home theatre PC, is multi-region Blu-Ray compatibility.
The GoodGearGuide review states:
"...it’s possible to enable region-free playback on the unit with just a little remote control trick. This makes the player a fantastic choice if you have a collection of Blu-ray movies from overseas sources."
So, it will play all Blu-Ray regions...but does not come that way out of the box? Yes/No?
If no, does the manual include instructions for the remote hack? Yes/No? If no, where does one find those instructions?
Thanks

Hi there,
I also assume that it will play region 'C'?
Does it have analogue 7.1 out?
Does it support DTS HD Master Audio?
IS it HDMI 1.3 or actually 1.3a?
I want to get a player with 2.0 capability - when will you guys be getting one of these?
Thanks!
Adam

Also, it does not support DTS HD Master Audio, and it is HDMI 1.3.

Dear all,
I just tested my Kogan blu-ray player, I was surprised it could bitstream HD audio (my Onkyo amplifier showed DTS-HD MA) and played Region A blu-ray disc as well as Region 3 DVD. But I tried many times it couldn't play Region 2 DVD. I wanted Kogan help me solve this problem.
Regards,
Kent Chau

This unit stopped loading blu-ray disks for me after 1 week. It is frustrating that there is no phone number to call. I've emailed but don't know when a response will come.
10:00 am Monday Kogon support is "off-line"

I found this blu-ray player suddenly dropped to AUD249.00.
It dropped about AUD100.00, I wondered if I can have the refund for the difference.

I'm loving how people are saying that this blu-ray player has blu-ray region free playback.. So i guess you considered my idea to implement this into the player (Posted at 12:26 p.m.12/9/08 coming soon blog) .. thanks..
I'm looking at getting one of these bad boys so i can watch movies using American blu-ray discs,, cause all the movies we get on Australian cinemas, America has already brought out onto blu-ray... thanks kogan for my request for this..
