WELCOME TO THE BLOG

Hi, my name’s Ruslan Kogan, I live in Melbourne, and I’m the founder of Kogan Technologies. For nearly two years my company has been bringing some great technology to Australian customers, and have just made our 50,000th sale.
The essence of my company is that we get some of the latest technology straight from the manufacturer, direct to you, the Australian consumer. There are no middle men in my business model so we’re able to get the products to you much cheaper. The other benefit of this style of business is that we don’t have a long product development cycle, so when new technologies are made available, I can get them to you faster.

The most recent was the Kogan PRO LCD range, the first product in Australia to have built-in DivX and DVD playback, as well as a digital tuner.

One of the ways I do this is by travelling to the manufacturers in China on a regular basis. When I do this I’ll be blogging about any new products or technologies I see. If I get good feedback and a lot of you are interested, then I’m happy to develop it into a product, for sale on my online store.

Similarly if you hear of any new technology, let me know about it – here – or by e-mail, and I’m happy to look into it when I’m next overseas.

I’ll also be blogging about industry news in general. I’m completely and utterly obsessed with tech – but in particular, entertainment products, and emerging products. I spend all day immersed in the stuff and I’ll post up the interesting stuff that I come across!

I’m more than happy to receive any comments, critiques, or compliments about my business and products.

It would be great to read some testimonials here, from Kogan customers who have purchased products, (tv's in particular), Kogan after sales service, etc.

cheers

hi next time you visit trade shows , would consider importing a small d i y module to supply a 5 volt dc power supply to run off the 12v auto dc for running g p s , my son has a new bmw mini but no provision to plug into the portable g p s t o charge its own battery when you are driving a simple compact package with a built in safety fuse and 1 m wire leads would be great , i have made contact with a few retail outletts with out success what do you think of this idea ? i wish you all the best with your n ew project , australia is sick of being ripped off thanks. graeme

Hi R. Egan,

What you're currently looking at is our new website which has launched very recently. I've included a feedback feature here so this feature will be embedded in our site going forward.

I'll be telling all of my newsletter subscribers about the new feature in the next issue, so they'll be able to come on and tell you what they think.

If you're after some instant third party feedback, you can head over to my eBay store feedback page, which has over 5000 individual comments: http://feedback.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback...

Hi Graeme,

did you buy the GPS unit from us? All of ours come standard with a car charger so it should be able to handle your son's car.

Jill says...

Hi there,
Watched Today Tonight about how you sell TV's etc with no middle man. Just a quick question, I noticed that you give 12months on site warranty on TV's. How do you do this if you are selling to anywhere in Australia via the internet. Do you have techs available that can come and sort out problems everwhere in Australia?
I do wish you continued success, we certainly do pay a lot more for electricial equipment etc than in Asian countries, and no middle man is a good idea.

Ruslan Kogan says...

We have 380 trained service agents Australia wide that provide on-site warranty for our products, so we'll definitely be able to help you with any issues.

Anthony says...

Hi,

Saw the story on Today Tonight and am very impressed with the concept.

If we visit your site at Carrum Downs, are we able to view the products for purchase to ensure quality of picture etc.

Ruslan Kogan says...

Hi Anthony,

Carrum Downs is our warehouse facility at the moment. Due to our tremendous growth, we are about to move to a new facility in Altona. Unfortunately our warehouse does not provide viewing facilities. However, you can be confident of your purchase through my company. If you have any problems at all we offer a refund within seven days of receiving your product.

Ven says...

Hi, I am very much looking forward for 60" LCD HD TV. I was very impressed when i saw one at another store. Do you have plans to bring them soon ? I am planning to buy some time in next few months.

Ian says...

Is there a listing of service agents? I would like to know who services the regional/rural area I live in, in Tassie.

Ruslan Kogan says...

Hi Ian.

If you e-mail support@kogan.com.au or get in touch through our support page, http://www.kogan.com.au/support/ we can help you out.

Ruslan Kogan says...

Hi Ven. I've had a look at 60" LCD HDTVs and I can definitely introduce them into my range. However, it's a very large and fragile product which means sending it around the country poses quite a few transport and logistical problems. We are trying to get aroung this so I'll keep you updated.

David from Ballarat says...

will you be offering a 19" (or 17") dvd combo with HD tuner in the future, be great for the caravan!!!

Ruslan Kogan says...

Hi mate. I do plan on bringing this in to the range in the future. Stay tuned by subscribing to the feed at: http://feeds.feedburner.com/kogan and you'll be in the know!

peter says...

can i buy the product i want direct from your warehouse

Ruslan Kogan says...

Unfortunately our warehousing is outsourced so you'll have to pay online. This is one of the ways we are able to save money and offer cheap TVs for everyone!

Tom says...

Where has the option for postage gone? I'm not impressed at the idea of paying $150 odd dollars for you to litterally have toll drive around the corner...... When can i expect it to return?

Scott says...

Hi Ruslan, I'm impressed with the price and what appears to be the performance of the full hi-def 47" lcd with the LG screen, but what can you tell me about the "Kogan Motion-Max" tech. How much of the "guts" of the machine is LG?
I am looking to purchase a complete home theatre system including blu-ray, sound, and a "tivo" or other hard disc recorder.
Wouldn't it be great if it all came in the 1 box, instead of as componant systems with wiring going everywhere and remotes all over the place? Obviously a seperate choice of screens and speaker options would be needed, but am I making sense?
You seem to be in a unique position to not only take on the large manufacturers, but the large "bargain" retailers as well.
Is it possible to simplify the end product of what people seem to want in home entertainment and save them lots of $$$ as well?
Consider this a friendly challenge, and I look forward to seeing whatever success you have in this.
Regards, Scott.

Ruslan Kogan says...

Hi Scott -- thanks for your support. We are currently working on the exact product you are talking about - it will be ready to be released sometime next year and as always, we will have the best value in Australia.

Hi Ruslan, My sister recently bought a VIERA TH-50PX80A 50" (127cm) HD Digital Plasma TV($1799 on sale) and the guy that sold it to them said that the HD is better viewing than the Full HD as the colour is alot better in HD, was he talking crap? as i would have thought that Full HD would be better!
As i'm thinking of purchasing the KOGAN 1080P-32 - FULL HD LCD TV WITH HD TUNER AND 1080P PANEL for $899 with the disability pension money that good old Mr Rudd is giving me if there is enough left after paying of some bills. ;)

I am sure the TV is great and the Blue ray is fine. But Kogan uses a delivery system that does not work. I am told by TOLL that they wont deliver any item more than 60kg because of OH&S regulations. The 42 inch weighs 100gk. So it sits in the warehouse in Dandenong. Kogan has the money; TOLL has the TV. Where is the circuit breaker and how do I get the product delivered now that we have paid for it? While it is in Dandenong it might as well still be in Shanghai or Suchau.

Kogan wont answer the phone; they have turned the live chat off line and cant or wont respond to emails. So I resort to the blog. I am frustrated in getting delivery of what was to be a christmas present. Kogan was quick to respond to the sale, even quicker to charge the credit card and fast off the mark to deliver it to the Toll warehouse - But there seems to be a flaw in the system. Each party of course will blame the other. Toll seems to have lost track oif the tv but delivered the Blue Ray. In the mean time I have no TV and I am out of pocket by $1500. I am currently trying to determine with Toll if I should cancel the credit card charge and shop elsewhere. It depends whether Toll can deliver pre Christmas. If Kogan had checked the conditions of delivery there might not be a problem.

Communication is non existent with Kogan.

Has anyone else had these frustrations?

Jay says...

Was considering buying the 47" Kogan TV as was on a price limit and was considering a 46" Sony 100Hz "w" model TV till I Stumbled on this site. Please advise if your TV has been delivered or I'll just have to take the possible saving of $600 odd and go to JB and buy that one... Hope your problems have been sorted please advise.. Tx.

KOGAN Please look after your customers. Seems things are not going so well now..Potential customers may not buy if this is going to keep happening.. like my purchase.. Tx.

Andrew says...

I can't get an answer out of Kogan either. Everything appears to be shut down. I had to pick up my very small PRO 16 TV from Toll myself as they wouldn't deliver unless someone was home but wouldn't give me a time. When I did get it home I noticed the unit was not assembled all that well - the control buttons were sunk into the casing. The on line manual didn't show the same remote as the one I received and did not contain a lot of info. Can anyone advise how to get rid of the subtext off the screen and not have it return?
I wanted the unit for a caravan trip but doesn't look like it's going to happen now.
Suggest PG pick up from Toll directly if haven't done so already

I was looking at buying a 47" full hd tv from kogan.. but after looking at this blog im not too sure i will..!!!
Ruslan ? what is going on why is there alot of rubbish flooded all over this page ..? Have you grown too big and dont care for the australian's anymore ?

Can some one tell me if this was just a little hicup and the promblem is all fixed now.. or is kogan going down hill from here ? thanks

Ruslan Kogan says...

Hi,

Regarding the above spam, we're working on getting rid of it, in the meantime, apologies for it. Shouldn't be too much longer.

Any problems with Toll should be no longer applicable. We are constantly improving our business, and feedback from the blog is very important. I really appreciate the honest and constructive criticism.

For example, we recently began working with an entirely new logistics company who have kept up a 100% dispatch rate for Kogan products.

This was certainly a small hiccup during an extremely busy time -- but I have introduced measures to ensure it does not happen again.

Cheers,

Ruslan

BUYERS BEWARE!

Read about Kogan, checked out website, great prices, bought a PRO19, received Wed 18 Feb 09. Turned it on, 1 STUCK PIXEL, bright green, top right quadrant, annoying as hell! have tried software fix and still stuck. checked 7 day money back guarantee and LCD warranty: need 2 STUCK PIXELS for replacement, within first 7 days!

Support emailed back saying same thing.

I'm still pushing for replacement as it was straight out of the box and bought without visual inspection (who can inspect anyway with online sale?)

BUYERS: BE PREPARED TO HAVE UP TO 2 STUCK PIXELS before any replacement.

In hindsight, I would have paid a bit more to buy from a store after testing onsite.

Glenn says...

Hi Guys

Just a quick question I was at a friends place the other day and their TV has a USB slot on it. Which comes in handy as they download TV Shows and pics and can play them straight on their TV.
I have to currently watch them on my computer.
So any thought of adding one to your TV`s

Tyrese says...

Hey kogan i think you should bring out a lcd TV range with LED backlighting technology some time soon (with white LED's if possible not the RGB LED's) and then later on OLED tv's (as the technology for the OLED's improves - currently has issues with short lifespan and possible on-screen burn-in issues). Also if possible try to include an ambient light sensor (for automatic adjustment of screen brightness) and support for zoom 14:9 aspect ratio as well as 16:9 aspect ratio. And also try to make it like your current top of the range models with full HD resolution and 100/120Hz processor, (and keep the design similar to these ones as well as they look bloody good) - don't like the look of your other tv's (the non 100HZ/ full HD models)

Matt says...

Hey kogan why don't you sell small desktop computers (no monitor) like the dell studio hybrid but with similar specs to your netbook range (like linux OS, intel atom processor) to keep costs down. Currently the dell studio hybrid sell for $1099 (no monitor), you could sell yours at $600-$700 range and undercut dell and other big brands which will be beneficial for both the customers and for your business, have a think about it and let us know
